1. What’s the difference between hardwood and softwood for external timber doors and gates?

  • Hardwood: From slow-growing broadleaf trees, dense, strong, weather-resistant, and long-lasting.
  • Softwood: From fast-growing conifers, lighter, easier to work with, more affordable, but less durable long-term and requires more maintenance.
  • We often use Iroko hardwood for bespoke front doors and wooden gates for its strength, structure, and natural beauty.

2. Is Accoya better than hardwood?

  • Both are excellent, each with unique advantages.
  • At Burke Bros. Joinery, we often combine Accoya with hardwood for custom front doors, offering eco-friendly, long-lasting performance while maintaining the natural beauty and strength of hardwood.
